Rykowisko

Druga połowa września, przedwieczorna pora, rezerwat Las Warmiński. Wokół nieprawdopodobna cisza, przerywana jedynie odgłosem żołędzi, kapiących z dorodnych dębów. Każde stąpnięcie po ściółce wydaje się nadnaturalnie głośne. I raptem, na razie z pewnego oddalenia, słychać władczy ryk… Ktoś, kto słyszy go po raz pierwszy, zaczyna się zastanawiać, czy w rodzimym lesie nie grasuje przypadkiem jakiś prehistoryczny drapieżca…

W ryku jelenia-byka zawiera się cała esencja przyrody. Słychać w nim pragnienie dominacji, imperatyw przedłużenia gatunku, ostrzeżenie dla rywali czyhających na błąd, wreszcie potwierdzenie nieustępliwości i władczości. Aż trudno uwierzyć, że wydaje go z siebie zwierzę kojarzone z pięknem, łagodnością i ostrożnością…

Rykowisko…Okres godowy jeleni. Dla kogoś,  kto nie po raz pierwszy przysłuchiwał się tej niepowtarzalnej ceremonii, ryk jelenia-byka kryje w sobie bogactwo nastrojów i komunikatów. Ryk rykowi nierówny. Inaczej  brzmią jelenie rozglądające się za łaniami, inaczej stadny byk obwieszcza wokół swoją zwycięską walkę, po uprzednim rzuceniu przeciwnikowi rękawicy w pojedynku o chmarę ”kobiet”…Oczywiście przeciwnik musi być godny. Kibice, czyli chłysty, czyli niedoświadczeni nowicjusze mogą tylko pomarzyć o odbiciu cudzych łań. Konfrontacja to przywilej najsilniejszych.

Pilnowanie łań, odpędzanie rywali, a do tego trwający ponad miesiąc post, w olbrzymim stopniu osłabia kondycję byka-jelenia. Wkrótce po zakończeniu rykowiska byki wyglądają jak swoje własne cienie. Natychmiast po okresie godowym wraca ich legendarna czujność. Znikają w gęstych ostępach, by jak najszybciej zgromadzić zapasy tłuszczu na nadchodzącą szybkimi krokami zimę.

Od wielu lat rykowisko jeleni jest czymś oczywistym dla dwójki olsztyńskich „ludzi lasu”: Janusza Dzisko i Adama Powązki. Jak zgodnie twierdzą, mimo upływu lat, misterium jeleni nie straciło dla nich nic ze swego piękna i tajemniczości.
